Social Studies Reflection

Presentation Summary

In our presentation we covered numerous different aspects of a native tribe that originates from an rain forest. A few of the aspects that we covered is how long have they lived in the rain forest, what cultural practices do they have, what games do they play and how does their culture relate to my culture. We also researched how the the Baka Pygmies are significant to the rain forest. The Baka Pygmies are significant to the rain forest because they keep the methods and culture of the rain forest and the people alive. Another significance is the relation they hold to other cultures and the similarities and challenges they have gone through or are still going through that many other indigenous tribes have as well. We also had to reverse the question and see how the rain forest is significant to the Baka Pygmies. Reasons that the rain forest is significant is because of the economic, cultural, geographic and finally historical significance's. The economic significance that the rain forest has is to multinational companies that can profit from mining or logging the rain forest. The Cultural significance of the rain forest is to the people that live of of the rain forest and how they develop their way of life that has been passed down from generation to generation. Creating the presentation wasn't extremely hard due the decent amount of information that we found about the Baka Pygmies and also because of how my team divided the questions amongst each other.

Basic Facts Of Metals and Nonmetals

Fashioned For You

Elements can be divided into two classes:
1)Metals
2)Non Metals

Properties Of Metals:
1) Have lusture
2) Opaque - Liquid cannot pass through
3) Hard
4) Strong
5) Hard wearing, last long
6) Malleable - Can be hammered into shapes
7) Ductile - Can be drawn into wires
8) Good conductor of electricity and heat

Short terms of elements:
1) Meth
2) Eth
3) Prop
4) But
5) Pent
6) Hex
7) Hept
8) Oct
9) Non
10) Dec

Second part of SCI 10

1) Is a good conductor of electricity
2) Sonorous - produce ringing sound when hit
3) Usually solid at room temperature
4) High density - usually heavy
5) Form basic oxides
6) high melting point
7) Ions of metals have positive charges

Exceptions:
Sodium is a soft metal of low density

Properties of Nonmetals:

1) Dull - Not shiny
2) Soft
3) Brittle - Breaks easily
4) low density - light
5) poor or non conductor of heat and electricity
6) usually liquids or gasses
7) low melting point
8) form acidic oxide
9) some ions have negative ions other are neutral

Oxide is a binary compound of oxygen and another element or group.

(Social Studies) - Human Rights Assessment - Introduction

Image result for human rights

We will conduct a Social Inquiry on the Human Rights issue of Inhuman treatment and torture (Article 5 of the Universal Human Rights Bill) . Our case study will focus on the country of Afghanistan.Introduction: The Human Rights issue that we will be researching is “Inhuman treatment and torture.” The reason why we have chosen this topic is because we have prior information about this topic and we feel strongly that it is something that shouldn’t happen and is an important issue that needs to be stopped. There are numerous people within the Middle-East, in Afghanistan that have been subjected to torture or to cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Within the research that has been done, we’ve found that there has been Afghan Police Officers killed in a Taliban attack, in Afghanistan, Gardez.

Reproduction

What is asexual reproduction?

Asexual reproduction is the process where only one parent is needed to create offspring through budding, grafting, fission, binary fission, spore formation and fragmentation.

How it happens?

Asexual reproduction occurs through one of the processes that are budding, grafting, fission, binary fission, spore formation or fragmentation. Any of those processes can occur but it depends of the circumstances that the organism is in.

What are the different types of asexual reproduction in plants and animals?

What are the benefits of asexual reproduction for plants and animals?

The benefits are that only one organism is needed to create offspring and this is good because finding a mate can be difficult for some organisms that are in desolate environments. Another benefit is if an organism is in a dire situation then it can clone another organism to pollinate if there no other pollinators.

Today's Banking lesson.

Today a lady name Rachel came into class to teach us about credit and credit history. She taught us that if you have good credit than you are more likely to get get a loan from the bank. We also learnt that you get good credit by making payments on time and also that the bank judges your credit by your rent payments and other things like that. Another thing that we learnt was that if you have bad credit you can rebuild it by making more frequent payments, paying on time and by paying back extra.

Today's trip to Stardome's.

Today the whole senior school went to the Stardome observatory in One Tree Hill.
We arrived at the Stardome car park at around 11 am. We exited the bus and found a place to sit under a tree and ate our lunch. Once we had finished our lunch we went and walked around the area that we were allowed to play in. After we had exhausted all the other things to play on we started to Ball Rush which my 2 other friends kept winning round after round soon after we had to go into Stardome. Once we went in we were in the Space Room with our guide Tim. At the start Tim said that we could ask some questions about Space and Astronomy, we asked a series of questions about Space things and Astronomy, Tim gave very detailed answerers to our questions and we learnt a lot.

After our session in the Space Room we were allowed to go out and have a look at the displays but before we left we Tim told us the rules so that we don't break anything. We looked around at all the displays and model Space Rockets until we were called into the observatory.

We walked into the observatory, found a seat and listened to Tim. Tim established the rules of the observatory and then started the movie. The movie was projected onto a big dome that was protruding out if the roof. At times in the movie I thought that I was moving not the movie.

After the Movie Tim showed how to find the planets and the Southern Cross and also a way to find where South roughly is.

We walked out of Stardome and entered the bus which was going back to school.

Today's Technologie.

Today at Graphics technology we started to make the paper stencils for the T-shirts that we are making. I traced the design for my design which was Darth Vader. After I had traced that design I searched the internet for other things that I could use but the bell rang and we had a short walk back to school.

Today's Tech.

Last Friday at technology we made Chocolate log cake. Our Chocolate log cake was made from Sugar, Cocoa, Flour, Baking powder, Butter, Milk and an Egg.

Dance Fever.

Today after morning tea my class had our first season of Dance Fever.Today was our first session because last week we were at camp. At the start of our lesson we learnt our Hip Hop dance steps, our Hip Hop routine has 3 parts to it which weren't to hard to learn. After we had learnt our Hip Hop routine we moved on to the Samba. We learnt the hard parts of the Samba dance which we have to perform at the end of the year.

Marilyn needs to fertilise her front lawn. It measures 20 metres by 35 metres. Each bag of the fertiliser that she plans to use covers approximately 200m2. How many bags should she buy? = ?

Remember: length X width
For today's maths my class had to figure out what the answer to this question was.
Can you figure it out ? Please leave you're answer in the comment section.
